Privacy & Data
Privacy policy
Last updated: September 14, 2026
- Your notes, groups, images and settings are stored on your Mac.
- If you turn on iCloud sync, they're also stored in your own private iCloud account, which we can't access.
- No Notesy account, no analytics, no trackers, no ads.
- Notesy AI only sends a note when you press ✨, to Apple's Private Cloud Compute or, if you connect it, your own OpenRouter account.
- Purchases are handled by Apple and RevenueCat, using a random ID. No name, no email, and never your notes.
- We don't sell or share your information.
iCloud sync
iCloud sync is off until you turn it on in Settings. When it's on, Notesy uses Apple's CloudKit to keep your notes, groups and images in the private database of your own iCloud account, so they match on every Mac signed in to it. That data is handled by Apple under Apple's Privacy Policy. Luminoxe has no access to it. You can turn sync off at any time.
Purchases (RevenueCat)
Notesy uses RevenueCat to keep track of in-app purchases, so anything you buy works on all your Macs and comes back after a reinstall. To do that, Notesy creates a random customer ID the first time it opens. The ID is kept in your own iCloud, on your Mac and in your Keychain, so it stays the same when you reinstall.
RevenueCat receives that ID, your purchase history from Apple, and basic technical details such as the app and macOS version, your App Store country and your IP address. It doesn't receive your name, email address, notes or anything you type. Payments themselves are processed by Apple, and we never see your payment details. RevenueCat handles this data under its Privacy Policy.
Apple Intelligence
On Macs that support Apple Intelligence, Notesy can proofread, rewrite and summarize text, and suggest a title and icon for a note. This uses Apple's on-device model, so the text is processed on your Mac. It's never sent to Luminoxe. If you use macOS Writing Tools from within Notesy, that feature is provided by Apple and covered by Apple's privacy terms.
Notesy AI (Clean up)
When you press ✨ in a note, Notesy sends that note's text, along with today's date, to an AI model that fixes the writing and formats it. Nothing is sent until you press ✨, and only the note you're cleaning up is sent. Notes with pictures aren't sent. You can turn Notesy AI off in Settings, which hides ✨.
Apple Intelligence (default). The note is processed by Apple's model on Private Cloud Compute. Apple says the data is used only to answer the request, isn't stored, and isn't accessible to Apple. It's never sent to Luminoxe. This is covered by Apple's privacy terms.
OpenRouter (optional). If you choose OpenRouter in Settings and connect your own OpenRouter account, the note is sent to OpenRouter, which passes it to the model you picked (Anthropic's Claude, xAI's Grok or Google's Gemini). Connecting creates an API key in your OpenRouter account, which Notesy keeps in your Mac's Keychain. OpenRouter and the model provider handle your note under their own terms, including OpenRouter's Privacy Policy, and you pay OpenRouter for what you use. Luminoxe never receives your notes or your key. You can disconnect at any time in Settings.
Currency rates for quick math
When quick math converts between currencies, Notesy downloads the latest public exchange rates from Frankfurter, a free service that publishes reference rates from the European Central Bank. The request asks only for the rates. It doesn't include your notes or anything that identifies you. As with any internet request, the service can see your IP address.
Clipboard
Notesy only reads your clipboard while you've turned on collecting with /paste in a note, and only to add what you copy to that note. Typing /paste again or clicking the chip stops it. Clicking a quick math answer copies it to your clipboard. Nothing from your clipboard leaves your Mac.
Notifications and login
Timers use local notifications on your Mac to tell you when time's up. If you choose to open Notesy at login, that's a macOS setting you can change at any time. Neither involves sending data anywhere.
Children
Notesy doesn't collect personal information from anyone, including children.
Changes to this policy
If we change how Notesy handles data, we'll update this page and the date at the top.
